Personal Care
What is personal care at home?
Personal care covers a variety of areas, but in essence it means supporting people who are living at home but need help with personal dressing, hygiene or meal preparation.
Our staff training ensures privacy and dignity is maintained at all times whilst helping the elderly in such services as:
- Bathing, showering, shaving or strip washing
- Dressing, oral care, shaving and hair washing
- Support with moving position in bed to prevent pressure sores
- Toileting including using a commode
- Incontinence care including:
- Changing incontinence pads, along with washing intimate areas
- Changing or maintaining a stoma or catheter bag, or other form of clinical intervention
The definition of personal care as a regulated activity also includes supporting nutrition and fluid needs. This can be anything from meal preparation support, preparing your meals for you, or full support with eating meals and drinking.
If our trained care workers notice difficulties with swallowing, we can raise a community healthcare referral through the GP to access support for you from the SALT team (speech and language therapists) who advise on a client’s diet as required. Following their instructions we can liaise with the GP and pharmacist to organise liquid or soluble medications.
What are the benefits of personal care at home?
Often elderly people prefer to stay in their own homes for as long as possible, comfortable in their environment and routines. It may be returning home after a hospital stay and being a little less mobile or just finding daily routine activities more tricky, where home care is a real benefit, meaning that you can stay in your own home being well looked after.
We spend time matching our care workers and clients carefully together by getting to know you and how you like things done at home, alongside any particular needs you may have which will be detailed in your care plan.
If you live in and around Chiswick and Ealing and would like some personal care support to continue living comfortably in your own home, why not get in touch to talk it through with us?
Violet's Story
Ealing resident who benefits from our personal care package
Violet started having visits to support her with washing and dressing in the mornings when her arthritis deteriorated and it became harder to do this herself. Her care workers help her with a bath in the morning. Violet can get in and out of the bath unaided but needs help washing her hair and the back of her body.
She has had our care service since 2013 and during that time she has increased and decreased the amount of care she has from between 1-3 visits per day depending on how her condition is.
When her arthritis is more debilitating, her care workers visit three times a day to support her with her morning routine, prepare meals throughout the day, pick up some groceries, and support Violet to prepare for bed in the evening.
The flexibility of our care service allows Violet
Testimonial
Client’s friend, August 2019
“We contacted Care Concern to help provide support for our elderly relative who had just come out of hospital and lived alone, several hours travel time from other family members. The fact that Clare was able to be so flexible and responsive to the changing needs over the following weeks made supporting our aunt ‘remotely’ so much easier, we were confident in the knowledge that she was in good hands.”
